Mixing Old and New: Expert Opinions

It’s commonplace today to see antique pieces mixed with modern ones, or placed within contemporary settings. It’s a balancing act that can create great energy in a space when the right pieces are put together.

At art and antiques fairs such as the BADA Fair, the combination of different styles and periods on display can be an inspiration for collectors, interior designers and newcomers alike. For those thinking about their interior design or the display of their art and antiques, art fairs are a rare chance to see a real mix of expertly selected artefacts cleverly placed together.

Two experts who successfully mix old and new pieces, Richard Coles from BADA Fair experts Godson & Coles along with interior designer Tom Carey, share their thoughts exclusively with us here on how and why mixing old and new works, and suggest practical ways to approach it in your own home.

Visiting The BADA Fair - What To Expect in 2016

Guests of The BADA Fair know to expect rare and historic items, beautiful treasures of many kinds and the UK’s most experienced art and antique experts to hand. But our visitors from both home and around the world can expect much more than this.

"The New Collectors"

There are few people who haven't enjoyed creating a collection at some point in their lives, even if just stamps as a child. The things that can form a collection are limitless but as collectors mature, the focus of their interest often shifts, with art and antiques sitting centrally for many.

The Country Life Talk confirmed for 2016

Country Life's, architectural editor, Dr John Goodall, will return to the BADA Fair in 2016 and talk about his new book on Parish Churches and their treasures.

'Our parish churches constitute a living patrimony without precise European parallel, their architecture and fittings the product of sustained patronage that, in some cases, demonstrably extends back well over a millennium. Fine art and architecture here combine unpredictably with the functional, the curious and the naïve, to form what is in effect a national museum that - unlike all its institutional rivals – presents its contents in an everyday setting without curators or formal displays'.

House & Garden partnership set to continue for 2016.

The BADA Fair is delighted to report its continuing partnership with leading interiors publication, House & Garden, for 2016.
